Why is slow production important?

Slow production is an approach that encourages the production of products in a more sustainable, ethical and high-quality way, as a counter to modern consumer culture. There are many reasons why slow production is important:

1. Sustainability and Environmental Protection

  • Less Waste: Slow production encourages the production of what is needed. This prevents overproduction and overstocked products from going to waste, contributing to a reduction in waste and environmental pollution. We keep low stock in our hand-woven products and make customized production as orders come in. We produce pom-poms with our leftover wool from wall decorations and present them in our shop as decor.
  • Less Resource Consumption: Fast production processes often consume large amounts of energy, water and natural resources. Slow production reduces the environmental footprint by using resources more efficiently. Thus, the wool specific to your rug is adequately dyed and there is no excess wool left on hand.
  • Use of Quality Materials: Slow production usually uses natural, environmentally friendly and recyclable materials. This results in products that last longer and have a less harmful impact on the environment.

2. High Quality and Durability

  • Focus on Quality: Slow production focuses on making products long-lasting and durable, rather than producing them quickly and at low cost. This provides consumers with better quality, long-lasting products. Each product can be personalized and individually hand-woven, which can be a long process to hand weave each product individually and individually, but hand-woven wool rugs can last up to 100 years or more.
  • Handwork and Craftsmanship: Handcrafted products require more care and attention. This ensures that each product is unique and offers a quality that cannot be achieved by machine production. Each stitch is left to the discretion of the weaver, each product is a personalized work of art.

3. Ethical and Fair Working Conditions

  • Fair Wages and Working Conditions: Fast production processes often use low-paid labor and put pressure on workers. Slow production promotes fair wages and decent working conditions for workers. There is only one workshop in our country that has received Step Label certification. We are doing our best to increase this number.
  • Supporting Artisans: Slow production supports artisans and small producers, especially handicrafts. This contributes to the preservation of traditional crafts and local economies. By coming together with different cooperatives, we continue to grow and support each other with different projects and products. Our baskets are an example of these.

4. Consumer Awareness and Value Perception

  • Consumer Awareness: One of our biggest problems is that in a competitive consumer world we are forced to evaluate products on a price/performance scale. Slow production encourages consumers to make conscious purchases. People start to understand where and how the products they buy are produced, what materials are used and how long they will last. This fosters more sustainable and ethical consumption habits.
  • Less and Less: Slow production encourages buying fewer products, but investing in higher quality and durable products. This supports the long-term use of products, as opposed to the “consume and throw away” culture. As a matter of fact, thousands of years old carpets and rugs are still being sold in our country.

5. Protection of Cultural and Artistic Values

  • Keeping Traditional Crafts Alive: Slow production contributes to the survival of traditional crafts by moving away from the pressure of speed and efficiency of modern production processes. This helps to preserve local cultures and carry cultural heritage into the future. Unfortunately, with the introduction of machine weaving in our country, hand weaving has lost power due to difficult conditions. One of our goals is to strengthen this area of our country and bring this heritage together with modern designs.
  • Uniqueness and Originality: Instead of repetitive, identical products in mass production, each product is unique and a work of art thanks to slow production. This gives consumers a personal touch.

6. Building a Deeper Connection

  • Creating Meaning and Value: Slow production encourages understanding the labor and story behind the products. We take every opportunity to communicate the labor behind our products and share our story with you.

In conclusion, slow production is a way of production that both respects the environment and contributes to people's well-being. Slow production makes a difference in many areas such as quality, sustainability, ethical production and the preservation of cultural heritage, and seeks to reduce the negative impacts of a rapidly growing consumer society.
