Care Instructions for Hand-Made Rugs
We use 100% wool in our hand-made rugs. The better you take care of them, the longer they will bring beauty to your space. Check out our tips below for a longer Studio Potato rug experience!
Vacuuming:
- Vacuum regularly but use a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar or set it to the highest pile setting to avoid damaging the fibers.
- Vacuum both sides of the rug to prevent moths and other pests.
- Please be careful with the fringes, avoid vacuuming over them to prevent splits.
Spot Cleaning:
- Attend the spills immediately with a clean, white cloth and avoid rubbing, as this can spread the stain and damage the fibers.
- Use mild, pH-neutral soap and cool water or white vinegar for spot cleaning. Test in a small area first.
Professional Cleaning:
- Give your rug to a professional cleaner every 1-3 years, depending on its usage.
- Please be sure that the cleaner specializes in hand-made rugs. Most of the time we encounter color leaks or shrinks due to wrong cleaning techniques.
- Avoid Sunlight: Protect your rug from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
- Padding: You can use a quality rug pad to prevent slipping. Pads also help maintain the rug’s shape and provide extra cushioning.
- Storage:
- If you wish to store your rug, clean it thoroughly and roll it with a covering cloth. You can also fold your kilims, yet this might cause folding marks.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. You can also use odor-free mothballs to prevent unwanted chews!
